Waste Disposal

The Refuse Department contracts with a waste disposal contractor to service the residents of Butler Township. The contract is sent out for bid annually. The current contractor is Rumpke.

Our residents spoke, and we listened. Many residents have asked us to offer them paperless billing and online payments. Butler Township has launched a new online billing and payment solution, offering more ways to view and pay your trash bill, plus the addition of 24/7 phone payments and pay by text. Residents can receive and view bills electronically, make a payment with credit/debit card or e-check, and choose to go paperless. You can also call to make a payment at 1-855-967-1047.

A quick, one-time payment can be made without registering or you can create an account to enjoy more features like setting up automatic payments, saving payment information for later use and viewing payment history.

  • Late Fees will be 10% of bill  per month, every month that the refuse bill is not paid.

Weekly trash removal services are provided through a contract between Butler Township and Rumpke. Residents pay the negotiated fee to the township, which in turn, then pays the hauler. If you are new to the community, you may arrange for trash pickup by calling the township at (937) 898-6735. Recycling is provided as part of the service, although it is not required. There is no rate reduction for not using recycling.

Rumpke observes the following holidays: News Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. If your pick up day falls on or after one of these holidays, collections will be delayed one day. If a holiday falls on Saturday or Sunday, there will be NO delays.

Household Hazardous Waste “Unacceptable Waste”

By definition, hazardous waste includes material that should never go into your regular trash. Common examples include:

  • Automotive products (antifreeze, fluids, motor oil)
  • Batteries (home and car)
  • Cathode ray tubes (TVs, computer monitors)
  • Fluorescent light bulbs and ballasts
  • Household cleansers
  • Medicines
  • Mercury (thermometers, thermostats)
  • Paints, latex and oil (must be dried)
  • Pesticides

Regulations for handling hazardous waste vary by community, so it’s important to abide by the procedures set forth by your local jurisdiction. Learn more at the Ohio EPA

Bulky-Item Pickup

As part of your waste removal service, Rumpke will pick up bulky items (except those containing Freon) the same day as your regular service. Bulky items must be called in to Rumpke’s Customer Service Center at 1-800-223-3960 at least 48 hours in advance of your next pickup day.  Rumpke does apply a charge per item for Freon removal.

Yard waste may be disposed of in any type of trash bag, although each household with Regular Service is limited to a total of six bags/containers per week. The six may be comprised of any combination of trash and yard waste, as long as the six-container limit per week is not exceeded. Low volume service yard waste must be co-mingled and fit inside the 35 gallon trash container.
