Waste Management
The Refuse Department contracts with a waste management contractor to service the residents of Butler Township. The contract is sent out for bid annually. The current contractor is Waste Management.
Household Trash
Weekly trash removal services are provided through a contract between Butler Township and Waste Management. Residents pay the negotiated fee to the township, which in turn, then pays the hauler. If you are new to the community, you may arrange for trash pickup by calling the township at (937) 898-6735. Recycling is provided as part of the service, although it is not required. There is no rate reduction for not using recycling.

If your pick up day falls on or after one of these holidays, collections will be delayed one day. If a holiday falls on Saturday or Sunday, there will be NO delays.
Household Hazardous Waste “Unacceptable Waste”
By definition, hazardous waste includes material that should never go into your regular trash. Common examples include:
- Automotive products (antifreeze, fluids, motor oil)
- Batteries (home and car)
- Cathode ray tubes (TVs, computer monitors)
- Fluorescent light bulbs and ballasts
- Household cleansers
- Medicines
- Mercury (thermometers, thermostats)
- Paints, latex and oil (must be dried)
- Pesticides
Regulations for handling hazardous waste vary by community, so it’s important to abide by the procedures set forth by your local jurisdiction. Learn more at the Ohio EPA
Bulky-Item Pickup
As part of your waste removal service, Waste Management will pick up bulky items (except those containing Freon) the same day as your regular service. Bulky items must be called in to Waste Management Customer Service Center at 1-800-343-6047 at least 48 hours in advance of your next pickup day. Items containing Freon (air conditioners, refrigerators, dehumidifiers and freezers) will be picked up on the third Saturday of each month. These items must be called in by Wednesday before the third Saturday of the month. Waste Management does apply a $50.00 charge per item for Freon removal.
***Severe Weather Advisory Information***
Waste Management’s Plans for severe weather is as follows:
Plan A – weather conditions are NOT severe and run normal.
Plan B – Weather conditions become unsafe for customers and employees, trash will be delayed one-day.
Plan C – if trash does not run on Tuesday or Wednesday, we will run one day behind – Wednesday will be on Thursday, Thursday on Friday and Friday on Saturday. Tuesday will have to wait until the regular Tuesday pick-up (this is the worse case-this solution costs us significant dollars in gas, overtime and heavier waste.)
Yard Waste
Yard waste may be disposed of in any type of trash bag, although each household is limited to a total of six bags/containers per week. The six may be comprised of any combination of trash and yard waste, as long as the six-container limit per week is not exceeded.
Seasonal Suspension
If you are going to be gone for a minimum of 4 weeks and a maximum of 16 weeks, once a year, you may qualify for a “seasonal suspension” of your Residential Refuse fees by completing the Seasonal Suspension form. Any information you provide through this form will be safe. The form is on a secure server and will be sent as encrypted data. If you have any questions concerning this request, please call Pam Luke at 898-6735, ext. 1119 or email her pluke@butlertownship.com.
