Fire Station 88
The Butler Township Fire Station 88 on Little York Road is in need of repairs due to the age of the structure. This station was built in 1989 and has served the township well over the last 23 years. However, due to the changing needs of the township and the needs of the fire department, renovations and repairs must be made to the station which will give the structure another useful life of 20 to 25 years. The Township advertised for Request for Qualifications from architectural firms and has received 12 applications. The review committee has narrowed down that field to 5 firms and the Township Trustees will interview those firms on May 29th. One firm will be chosen to make recommendations on needed repairs and room modifications and/or additions. The Township hopes to complete those plans by spring of 2013 and then complete the renovations by 2014.
Miller Lane Business District Plan
Butler Township recently hired Jacobs Engineering to complete a study of the Miller Lane Business District. They will analyze the existing conditions of the area by studying the current land use, the current zoning of the parcels, the traffic patterns and other observations such as street amenities and signage. The next phase of the plan will be to interview community stakeholders and then develop vision, goals and opportunities for the area. The next meeting of the review committee will be held on May 31st at 6:00 p.m. in the administration building.
Water Main Break Repairs
Repairs will now begin on the water main breaks around the township. There are three breaks in the Imperial Hills Subdivision that will be repaired this week and next week (May 2). There is another main break on Brantford Road that will be repaired next week (May 9). If there are any questions, please contact Doug Brunk at the Service Garage 898-6735.
MAYBE YOU NOTICED -
A great deal of curiosity has been stirred by the clearing of land behind the United Dairy Farms (UDF) store at 8733 North Dixie Drive (corner of Little York Road). In early summer, a new UDF store will be constructed on cleared land to the rear of the existing building. The current building will be open for business during most of this new construction, and then will be closed and demolished. If all goes as planned, the site will be closed for business only a short time during this transition. The new UDF will be close in size to the existing store. The reason for all this activity has to do with enlarging the gasoline dispensing islands. Twice as many pumps will be available, and ease of access to and around the site should be greatly improved.
Next to the UDF store lies Township fire station #88. Two modifications will be occurring here. The entire drive apron facing Little York Road has been removed. A large mud pit remains temporarily. Drainage was poor under the old slab, and the drive apron was badly deteriorated. A new concrete apron will be poured after regrading adjustments are made to direct storm runoff away from drive surfaces. And later this year interior and exterior remodeling activities are planned for station #88, including an addition. Out of sight, but to the rear of station #88, drainage is being rerouted to a newly constructed, shared detention pond to be utilized also by UDF.
Elsewhere in the township, Red Lobster (Miller Lane at Benchwood Road) is just wrapping up a facelift employing new siding and sign colors.
Max and Erma’s is planning a similar Miller Lane facelift involving new siding and signage colors. This work should begin in June.
El Toro may have led the way for spring remodeling when extensive alterations, inside and out, were made to the old El Pablo’s.
Not to be outdone by Miller Lane restaurants, Sam’s Club is also planning on some new colors and signage upgrades this summer.
Elsewhere in the township, serious consideration is being given to a new office building on a Dixie Drive lot immediately behind (west) of Sam’s Club and north of Fifth Third Bank. Survey stakes are evident at this site.
